When Pigs Fly

Better start cruising Gunbroker.com for a suitable bear rifle. Ya know with the coming ice age and all that -- could be polar bears in the neighborhood before you know it.

What's that ya say? Crazy talk?

Hey, anything's possible! People were saying the AGW movement would slow down when pigs have wings.

Well, there's pork in the treetops this morning!

This from a column by James Delingpole at the UK's Telegraph:
What the Russians are suggesting here, in other words, is that the entire global temperature record used by the IPCC to inform world government policy is a crock.

As Richard North says: This is serial.

The Polar Express...

More bears than we can bear?

This from "The Telegraph" in the UK
The ice caps haven’t been melting as the alarmists and the models predicted they should. The Antarctic, containing nearly 90 per cent of all the ice in the world, has actually been cooling over the past 30 years, not warming. The polar bears are not drowning – there are four times more of them now than there were 40 years ago. In recent decades, the number of hurricanes and droughts have gone markedly down, not up.

"In box" this morning

Subject: CBS News Reports on Obama Squashing Dissent

CBS News - hardly an outlet of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" - has the explosive allegations that the Obama administration directed aides to suppress information critical of the authenticity of global warming theories, just as the Obama Administration is trying to shove through a big-government, socialistic "Cap & Trade" legislation that would lead to massive government expansion and higher taxes:

excerpt:
Carlin has an undergraduate degree in physics from CalTech and a PhD in economics from MIT. His Web site lists papers about the environment and public policy dating back to 1964, spanning topics from pollution control to environmentally-responsible energy pricing.

After reviewing the scientific literature that the EPA is relying on, Carlin said, he concluded that it was at least three years out of date and did not reflect the latest research. "My personal view is that there is not currently any reason to regulate (carbon dioxide)," he said. "There may be in the future. But global temperatures are roughly where they were in the mid-20th century. They're not going up, and if anything they're going down."

Carlin's report listed a number of recent developments he said the EPA did not consider, including that global temperatures have declined for 11 years; that new research predicts Atlantic hurricanes will be unaffected; that there's "little evidence" that Greenland is shedding ice at expected levels; and that solar radiation has the largest single effect on the earth's temperature.

If there is a need for the government to lower planetary temperatures, Carlin believes, other mechanisms would be cheaper and more effective than regulation of carbon dioxide. One paper he wrote says managing sea level rise or reducing solar radiation reaching the earth would be more cost-effective alternatives.

Global Warming?

We could use some. Not the coldest December we've had here in our part of SoCal but it's surprisingly cool.

Here's something we don't see too often down here. Yesterday after lunch this ice was dumped out of a cooler. Next day lunch time -- still there.

Interesting thread yesterday at Lex's place on earth temps and solar activity. Link

Missed by THAT much!

Or would ya believe 2 or 3 orders of magnitude?

Myth of Consensus Explodes: American Physical Society Opens Global Warming Debate.

A journal for the American Physical Society published mathematical proof that there is no "climate crisis". It found that the UN's overstated estimates resulted in a "500-2000% overstatement of CO2's effect on temperature."

Polar Ice caps and...

...underwater Volcanoes?
another h/t to BobKrumm, quoting his blogpost here:
In December 2007 Ralph von Frese, an earth sciences professor at The Ohio State University, reported newly discovered volcanic activity beneath the ice sheet that covers nearby Greenland. His analysis determined that it is possible that recent volcanic activity there might melt enough water at the bottom of the ice sheets to accelerate their flow. Von Frese concluded that:

The behavior of the great ice sheets is an important barometer of global climate change . . . However, to effectively separate and quantify human impacts on climate change, we must understand the natural impacts, too.

Whattya know! Dead people DO bleed...
